Over this course, you will learn the complete process of tanning buckskin deer hides from start to finish much like our ancestors would have. This course will be taught by Peter Ananin from Woodland Knowledge, who has studied traditional tanning methods internationally for over 10 years & runs his own traditional tannery.
We will cover: -sourcing hides -respectfully working with hides -fleshing -bucking -graining -membraning -braining -softening -smoke preserving hides -Introduction to other animal products such as sinew, bone & antler -Introduction to sewing and pattern making This course can be followed up by instruction on how to turn your soft, supple, light and strong buckskin into your own shoes, shorts, shirts, skirts, rucksacks or bags.
This is a weekend course: Starts Friday evening, finish Sunday lunchtime.
All food and drinks will be provided.
Please bring a tent or Hammock and sleeping bag.
