About this course

Come join us on our 43ft Yacht as we sail up the West coast of Scotland learning coastal survival and seamanship skills on our Primal Castaway course. The West coast of Scotland has some of the best sailing in the world with many isolated coves and uninhabited inlets for you to explore. Not to mention secluded beaches where you can spend the night under the stars with a roaring fire to keep you warm.

Sailing up the Kyles of Bute we will be spotting marine mammals with our specialised maritime equipment, learning seamanship skills and having the chance to sail the yacht. Visiting uninhabited islands you will learn coastal survival skills, foraging wild edibles and principles of survival. Sleep under the stars or spend a night in your own castle!

Then on our return enjoy the thrill of speeding back to port in our own high power speedboat!

The course starts at 9am on Day 1, and finishes around 4pm on Day 3, although this time may vary due to tide times.

What's not included

All equipment will be provided for this course.

Depending on weather, it's sensible to come in clothes suitable for possibly wet and muddy conditions.

KIT LIST

Please save your money and do not buy expensive kit. The more you know, the less you need to carry.

Outdoor Clothing

Outdoor clothing should be tough and comfortable. Wearing several thin layers is better than a few thick layers. A waterproof jacket and several sweatshirts underneath are sufficient. Jeans should not be worn, as they are slow to dry, clinging and cold. Natural colours or camouflage will give you a better chance of spotting wildlife. Walking boots are ideal, but wellies in wet weather and trainers in dry weather and on the boat, will suffice.

Please pack your torch, antibacterial wipes/soap and insect repellent at the top of your bag.
